COMMUNITY SAFETY IN GLOSSOP

The latest in a round of Community Safety stands, this time in Glossop. Accomapnied by HPBC Officers, I meet people and listen to their fears around crime and Anti Socil behaviour. We distribute free security markers and provide valuable and reassuring advice for people. It is pleasing that whilst there are still areas of anti social behaviour, by and large people still feel safe living in the High Peak

NEW CARE CENTRE IN GLOSSOP

I am attending a public meeting hosted by Tameside & Glossop PCT when they explain their plans for a new care centre in Glossop. They outline their proposals for the town, which sound very exciting. There are issues still to be dealt with in terms of access and parking, but the principle sounds good for Glossop. Whilst the concept of Polyclinics worries me as they can be remote and impersonal, a new bigger better facility for Glossop has to be welcomed at this early stage.

COMMUNITY SAFETY

Part of my role on High Peak Borough Council includes community safety. As part of that role, I join with offices in Spring Gardens to speak to people about how safe they feel. Following that I and other Councillors do a walkabout round Buxton looking at potential hotpsots for anti social behaviour.

G & S FESTIVAL DINNER

I and several of my Councillor colleagues attend a Dinner in aid of the Smiths who organise the hugely successful Gilbert & Sullivan festival that brings so much to the High peak in terms of both culture and economic benefits. Organised by the local hoteliers with the Mayor and Mayoress present, it provides for an excellent evening and an opportunity to talk to people and listen to their wishes and aspriations for Buxton and the surrounding areas

HIGH PEAK CANCER SUPPORT GROUP MEETING

I am attending the Groups latest meeting to update them about the walk. It appears that we have raised more than enough money for them, so we discuss donating some of the proceeds to Blythe House too. This should man that 2 Charities will get a benefit instead of just the one. The group is small but members seems in good spirit and very provide support to each other.

HIKE 2008 - DAY 2

The weather is much improved, although it is quite windy. We have the welcome relief of bacon sandwiches provided to us halfway up Combs Moss by friends, Wendy & Andrew. That extra bit of sustenance fires us up to the top. Today is a lot easier than yesterday especially as the weather is drier. We reach Corbar Cross mid afternoon before being welcomed into Buxton by the Mayor, Mayoress and Leader of the Council

HIKE 2008 - SETTING OFF

We're off on this year's charity hike. Look for picutres on the Photo Gallery page. As we climb Kinder Scout the weather gets progressively worse. I am surprised how many fellow walkers there are up here. We are properly equipped with waterproofs, maps, compasses, lights and whistles. More tyhan can be said for one family who we meet. They are ill prepared and lost. They wlak with us for a while until we direct them down to Edale where they want to go. AT the summit, the hail is horizontal, the widn fierce and the visiblity poor. The we move on to mam Tor where the conditions arent quite so bad, but still none too pleasant. Emma and I agree, if we weren't walking for charity then it would have been very easy to turn back !

IS MILLIBAND PITCHING FOR THE TOP JOB ?

David Milliband has written an article for a national newspaper. He does not mention Gordon Brown in the article yet he claims that it isnt a pitch for the Prime Ministers job !  Time will tell, but I think he may be eyeing a leadership challenge in the Autumn. Its  a shame that with the country reeling from one economic blow after another, they cant concentrate on that rather than their own personal priorities. It would be easier just to call a General Election.
