 | COURT RULING ON RENTS ! |
I have been told of the ruling in the Heffernen case on Local Reference Rents. The full information is on the news page, but I know one thing, it will be devastating news for those effected in Glossop. It effectively means that the present process is null and void. We will have to wait longer now before we can get any change from TRS. The one thing that slightly encourages me is that the Heffernen ruling may add strength to our case when the opportunity arises. On receipt of the news my first action is to get hold of TRS. Late afternoon I have secured a guarantee that High Peak will be the first area after Sheffield (Heffernen) to be looked at.

 | GLASGOW BY ELECTION |
A truly remarkable result as Labour loses its 25th safest seat in the country to the SNP. It will provoke turmoil in the Labour Party as the future of Gordon Brown will be called into question |

 | MOORLAND MANAGEMENT |
Following an earlier day on the moors, I have been invited to a more in depth look at how the moorland is managed. It is an incredible place, and the views form the top are spectacular. It is however a very serious business. As we admire the scenery, it is easy to assume that it just happens to look like it does. We must remember that it takes hours of work and attention to ensure the sustainability of these moors. We must also remember that they provide a huge environmental service as they soak up carbon dioxide. I have learnt so much today about the moors and the way they are managed.

 | PUBLIC MEETING ON GLOSSOP RENT LEVELS |
As part of the consultation on Housing Benefit levels in Glossop following The Rent Service decision to include Glossopdal in with NE Manchester, I have asked that a meeting of interested parties be convened by the Council. (more on this subject on the news pages). The meeting is well attended with useful contributions coming from both tenants and landlords alike. A good representation of Councillors are present. We can only hope that we can effect a change of mind from TRS.

 | END OF TERM AT THORNSETT |
I have been invited to the end of term tea at Thornsett school. Yet again it provides more evidence that the schoolis crying out for a new building. I will do whatever I can to help the fight for that to happen as soon as possible.

 | MAYORAL GOLF DAY |
Mayor, Cllr. Robin Baldry, is hosting his Charity Golf Day, so I go to see him tee off, and then to thepresentation in the evening. It looks like Robin has managed to raise a large amount of money for the Mayor's charity.

 | THE RENT SERVICE REVIEW |
I am furious now that the results of The Rent Service Review are known. They seem to have completely disregarded all the evidence that says Glossop does not belong in the NE Manchester area. A large body of evidence has been presented by many people including the Citizens Advice Bureau, but they have completely disregarded it and offered no change to their original analysis. I am chairing a meeting of stakeholders soon when we will gather more views to be put forward during the 6 week consultation period.
