 | IT WAS A BUDGET OF DOOM |
 |
That was the budget that was. More debt, more borrowing, based on figures that are optimistic to say the least and are already being discreditted. What a sorry mess the country is in, and what a sorry state that the man responsible, Gordon Brown cannot admit it or cannot see it !

 | BUDGET DAY - A DEEP BREATH MAY BE REQUIRED |
 |
Today is Budget Day, I suspect there will be a lot of pain for us all. The country is so ill prepared for the economic downturn that there will be some very stark facts and figures coe out in the Chancellors speech today. More tomorrow I'm sure. |

 | HARPUR HILL |
 |
Following a Harpur Hill residents meeting some time ago, when I agreed to speak to Derby University about the disused site in Haprur Hill, I managed to get all parties together for a discussion about the future of the site and what plans DU may have. Also attedning were my colleagues and local Councillors Robin Baldry and Bob Morris, together with representatives of DU and several local residents. I felt the discussion were productive and fruitful. As ever many things are about communication, and if people and organisations can communicate well then things can happen in a more positive way

 | F. A. VASE FINAL - GOT MY TICKET |
 |
Despite going to the quarter final match, I couldn't get a ticket for the semi final so I was determined not to miss out for the final of the F.A.Vase. Glossop have done fantastically well to get there. I called in at the ground today to get my ticket and also to book on to the train that the club have chartered. It should be a great day out with the fans on the train to the match.
I see in the press that there is criticism on the local MP for appearing to jump on the bandwagon by standing at the gate with his GNE scarf on. I won't comment specifically on his actions - he can answer for them. My only observation is that the High Peak Conservatives have had and paid for a board on the ground supporting GNE for the last few years, long before any Wembley Cup Finals were in the offing ! We also have a board on the ground at Buxton. Personally I have long been a fan of non league football from my days of going to watch Buxton as a boy aged 9, right through to today.

 | EMAIL SLURS - MY THOUGHTS |
 |
In a similar way to the recent furore over MP's expenses, many people have asked me for my comments on the recent events surrounding the proposed campaign of untrue stories that 10 Downing Street were proposing to launch.
I am disgusted with this story. it is scandalous that people in these positions should be even contemplating such actions. All the more disgraceful is that these people are paid for out of the public purse. They are not paid for by Labour Party funds but by the tax payer - you and I ! For us to pay for people to peddle such lies and innuendo is a disgrace. It brings all of politics and those of us who work in it into disredpute. I should be surprised that Gordon Brown wont apologise, but it seems to be a trait he has, he wont apologise for the economic mess, so I suppose it is too much to ask that he apologises promptly for this debacle either.
If we want people to play an active part in politics and voting to increase it is duty bound on politicians to behave in an upright and responsible manner, NOT to make up stories about the opposition, NOT to try everything they can think of to try and squeeze the maximum out of the expenses allowance and NOT to treat people like fools !

 | GO GLOSSOP GO !!!! |
 |
What an afternoon ! Who needs Premiership football when the level of excitement provided by Glossop Morth End's fantastic win can be found on our own doorsteps ! Unfortunately I couldnt get a ticket which meant I was listening on the radio as the drama unfolded but High Peak Radio and ben Price did a fantastic job of conveying the drama and excitement. I was absolutely exhausted after the match, but well done to evreyone - the players, the staff AND the fans for the fantastic support. I suspect that Glossop wil be deserted on May 10th as everyone will be heading down the M1 to Wembley - I for one will be with them ! !
