 | PRE BUDGET REPORT |
The Chancellor's Pre Budget Report was announced yesterday. He is planning to borrow more money than all previous Governments put together. The debt will have to be repaid and it will have to be repaid by you and I ! It will mean that the Government will be spending more servicing this debt than they are spending on education! The short term measures which amount to £20 billion in TEMPORARY tax giveaways are dwarfed by the PERMANENT tax rises. I dont think the VAT reduction will do anything other than create an administrative headache for businesses who are struggling enough as it is ! Will it ncrease consumer spending ? You tell me - if something for £100 is suddenly £2.50 cheaper will you run out and buy it ? Another question - if you are a retailer who has just printed your latest catalogue with, say a television at £235. Will you reprint your catalogue with it at £230 ? I doubt it. Will you instead, leave it at £235 and send £30.65 vat to the Treasury instead of £35.00.
This whole report is a flawed plan that hopes to save the Government's skin at the next election.

 | CHARITY QUIZ - BLYTHE HOUSE |
Once a year along qwith my wife Jayne we run a quiz night on behalf of Blythe House. Tonigh we held it actually at Blythe House for the first time. It was a great succes with over 20 teams participating. I think the move to Blythe was a great idea as it gave many people their first chance to see what a fantastic facility it is and where the money we raise actually goes.

 | EDINBURGH |
Every year I take a trip from High peak Conservatives to visit a Parliament building. We have ben to Brussels, Strasbourg, Westminster. This year it was the turn of the Scottish Parliament building in Edinburgh. It is well documented that the Parliament was built at a cost of over £400 million against an original budget of £40 million. Whilst the building may be impressive from an architecturla point of view, the overspend is horrific and my own view is that the whole thing is obscene when you look at the way the money has been spent. It could have been put to much better use in my view !

Avid followers of the blog (are there any out there) will know that I recently offered to cook a meal for four people in their own home as a lot in a charity auction. It sold for over £60 and tonight is the night for the meal. I hope that I gave value for money and the genrous people who bought the lot seemed to enjoy the food I prepared.

 | MANOR PARK BOWLING CLUB |
Congratulations to Manor Park Bowling Club in becoming the first Cron Green bowling club in the country to be awarded Clubmark. I was privileged to be asked to present tha award to Dave Collier from the club. The event combined with the Club's own prize giving ceremony took place at Whitfield Working Mens Club who put on a fine spread for all who attended. The Club imprees me in the work they do with young people proving that the young and the elderlt are NOT incompatible and that they can get on together and play together. Well done all the the Club.

 | REMEMBERANCE DAY |
I have been invited to the unveiling of a Memorial Plaque at Buxton Community School to former pupils who lost their lives in the war. The event was tremendously dignified and I was extremely impressed in the pupils who were involved in the service. They gave recitals and presentations around soldiers wartime experiences. This was followed by the last post at 11am and a reading of students reasons why they wanted to be involved in what was a very moving ceremony.

 | GLOSSOP & HADFIELD PENSIONERS |
Following a recent invitation I went to speak to the Glossop & Hadfield Pensioners. We had a wide ranging discussion about Conservative policies and what we would do to address specific issues raised by the group. We discussed things ranging from pensions, benefits through to transport problems
